Sun Yoga was
founded in 2000 by Dr. Jacqueline Kaoy with the aim to bring yoga
to children around the world. Dr Jacqueline Koay, Director of Sun
Yoga Limited UK, received her Honors Degree in Chemistry from the
University of Manchester, UK, and studied for a Doctorate in Nuclear
Physics at Oxford University, UK . Sun Yoga now has over 200 teachers
across the globe!
We now live
in a fast past world of cell phones, computers, internet, tv, video
games, etc. where children often interact more with these technologies
than they do with other children or adults. Children’s activities
are often limited to competitive sports and with classroom sizes
growing larger children often receive very little personal attention.
Yoga provides children a safe and non-competitive space to learn
and interact.
Aim
The aim of Sun
Yoga Kids is to provide a safe and happy place for children to discover
the joy and benefits of yoga. We believe that a child’s development
must focus on the whole person. Sun Yoga takes a holistic approach
to child development by emphasizing physical, emotional, spiritual
and mental well-being of the whole child. We teach children how
to be beautiful, bountiful and blissful.
Yoga is more
than doing mat exercises, sports or sitting for long hours in meditation.
While yoga does use breathe, posture and meditation, it is really
about feeling good, being good and doing good. Through breath awareness
and physical posture we focus on body-mind fitness. However, yoga
isn’t something that is left behind along with the mat at the end
of the class. It encompasses all aspects of daily life from what
we eat to how we treat others. Our classes are fun and energetic
and include music, art, and games.
