  Yoga : Testimonial

Read what people have to say about Bikram yoga and these conditions.

The dramatic improvements you'll read about in these testimonials can be attributed to causes besides the yoga itself: a deep desire to get well, the effort of going to yoga day after day, even when in pain, a desire to overcome fear of the unknown, and the confidence the instructor has in the ability of Bikram yoga to bring healing to the situation. All these are important components of the healing process and should not be underestimated. However, what is it in the yoga itself that helps produce these results?

Testimonial from students from our studio:

Dear Mony,
I would like to describe my journey in yoga. But first, my heartfelt thanks to all my friends and teachers most especially Tes Pantoja and Maricel Macesar who untiringly has been urging me to try it for a long time. I have given them so many reasons and excuses not to join. My arthritis, vertigo, hypertension, scoliosis… a lot! Ya, just mention anything and you could expect me to say I have that too. In fact, Tes lent me her book on Bikram Yoga so I would have an idea of what it is all about. Did I read the book? Well, your guess is right! It was just lying in my bookshelf untouched, unwanted and unread.
I met one of the teachers, Zeb in Tes’ house during dinner. He’s a man of few words. I remember he said to me "just go and you will be fine" with a low tone in his voice and a stare that tells you I know what I’m talking about. Joking aside, he sounded encouraging. He said to me don’t worry, just go we’ll all be there for you.
January 8 was my first day in attending Bikram. When I entered the room, oh… it was too hot. I just told myself just go with the flow. BREATHE was the constant word I hear. A few minutes after staying in the room, my knees and my joints started to ache. It’s like there’s a knife pierced in each of these parts. It went on the whole 1 ? hours. By the way, I tried the first timer special. It’s a 7 day start up something…. Did I come back on my second day after the excruciating pain I felt on the first? Indulge me; I kept on coming everyday for the last 7 days! Ha, see…. But that’s not the end of it. After my 7 day special, Mony one of my teacher asked me if I want to continue. I told her I will and she asked me if I want to do the 30 day challenge. At that time seriously, I just want to impress her. So I said the big YES!!! When I got home, I stared in the mirror for a long time and wondered what I have gotten myself into.

Count down day 1 to day 10 of my challenge. I still continue to feel the pain in my knees and joints. After that, without my noticing it, the pain was gone. That’s what I thought. It just moved to my lower back! One night, I just cried and told my husband my whole body is aching. He answered me "mom you survived the pain in your knees and joints…it’s gone right?" I said "yes!" (Tears all over my face) "So mom, your body is just adjusting to it. Go finish it." With all my drama, all I want to hear from him is to tell me to stop. But it did not work…. So I had to continue. So back pain from day 11 to day 18. What made it go away is the advice of my other teacher Amanda. She said "tuck your tummy in, that’s very important. Walla! My back pain slowly went away.

One of my fears of not joining yoga is because of the poses that I know I could not do in my lifetime. I could not even reach my toes when I bend, much more those complicated ones! But to my surprise I slowly was able to do it (not perfect of course). Ok gone are days of body pains… (Not really, what I mean is I can tolerate it already). I’m also almost half way in my challenge. Oh this is easy. That’s what I thought. Around day 20 of my challenge, I started to experience being nauseous and my tummy hurts a lot up to a point of being acidic. This made feel like puking in the middle of the session most of the time. My teacher Omar tells me there are a lot of things, going on in my body. So he said "Just be nice and good to your body, just lie down when you’re having difficulty." That’s what I have been doing. Just to get by everyday to finish my challenge, I had to bring my Vicks vapor rub which I spread on my small towel. When I start to feel nauseous, I pick it up and smell it just to perk me up.

During my 30 day challenge, there were good days and bad days. But the point is, good or bad, after each session I feel good and energized. I just finished my challenge today, February 12. So happy, I got through it. What were the changes in my body after doing yoga for 37 days (including my 7 day special)? No more pain in my knees and joints. No constant headache. Energized. My friends tell me my body became smaller. Lastly, my flexibility has improved. I can’t still reach my toes and lock my knees consistently but I know in time I will. Of course, my newly found Yoga family is a big, big plus! I’m so lucky to have known them and be part of it.

Will I still continue? You bet I will!

Dear Mony,
How could I ever thank you for teaching me a new way of life,"HealthyLife". Something so important in nowadays.

Even for me (not a real regular), yoga proved to bring immediate results and I learnt to like it very much. My kids love to "play" yoga with me and we have a lot of fun together. It’s a really good approach to bond with them. Their favorite poses are tree and rabbit. Thank you for bring us a joy in the same making us more beautiful from inside. When I found Bikram Yoga at Yoga@42, it was the best discovery in all my years of living in Jakarta. I have been attending classes for just over two years and have to say it is without a doubt the most complete form of exercise around. Not only it is physically challenging but mentally as well. The 26 postures work to strengthen and tone every part of the body and the focus required to concentrate completely ensures that the mind is also strengthened. You leave the class feeling energized in body, mind and spirit. There is also a deep sense of calmness that stays with you for the rest of the day.

For many years, I was a gym junkie and had chronic knee and back problems from high impact exercise and lifting weights. After doing yoga, my knees are almost as good as new and my back is strong and pain free.

Everyone in the studio is friendly and welcoming. Mony is a gifted and patient teacher. She is a great example to all us yogis and yoginis.

I am returning to Australia very soon, and will miss my classes in Kemang very much.

Dear Mony,
Thank you for bringing Bikram Yoga and opening Yoga@42. I personally think that is the coolest thing that happens in Kemang.
I am a beginner in your class, but I never feel uneasy, the environment is very friendly and welcoming. I enjoy doing yoga because of you, such a talented teacher who always pushes your student to be better each class. I used to have tight and tense muscles especially in my right shoulder, but after practicing for over 1 month, it feels a lot better. It also helps me lose weight. Thanks for everything.

Dear Mony,
I came to Yoga@42 to try it out "once" and have not turned back! I have given up running and the gym and now can not imagine not having bikram as part of my routine. The workout is amazing and after a few short months, bikram has fixed all my muscle strain and tension after years of running! I absolutely cant thank you enough for "enlightening" me- I have become a number one fan of yours Mony!
Thank you again- you’ve built a great yoga community in Jakarta.
